When you register on Givie.com, you supply your zip code and radius (how far you're willing to travel).  Givie.com remembers this for you and automatically lists items which are available within your search area.

If you would like an item, simply click the request this item! link beside the item.  You have the opportunity to send a short message with your request for the item.

The item owner will see the list of users who would like the item (and their messages) and can arbitrarily give the item to any of the requesters they choose.  When an item is "given", a message is sent to the intended recipient and the item status changes to "Given, Pending Pickup".  When the item is picked up the original owner can mark it as "Taken" and it will no longer listed in the available items.

If you are given the item, you will be sent a notification email which includes the owner's email address - it is then up to you to make arrangements to pick up the item.

You should pick up the item at the time you arrange with the giver. If you fail to show you can be marked as a no show and will possibly be counted against you when others are later considering giving you items.

You can also submit wanted postings.  People can use givie.com to send you a response but it does not mean you are offered priority for any other offerings.
